Danube monitoring at the Irsching power plant site

Temperature and oxygen monitoring in the Danube and Paar rivers

Between 2006 and 2011, E.ON Kraftwerke GmbH expanded the power plant consisting of three units at the Irsching site in the municipality of Vohburg. A gas and steam turbine plant was newly built on the site and a gas turbine plant was expanded into a combined cycle plant. Of the old power plant units, only one unit is still used as needed. Monitoring of possible ecological impacts of the use of the Danube for cooling purposes was included in the permit notices for the construction and operation of the two new units as part of a risk management program.

PSU has been commissioned to document and evaluate the temperature and oxygen conditions in the Danube and Paar rivers in the periods before, during and after commissioning of the new power plant units. The two parameters water temperature and oxygen content are analyzed annually with regard to the influence of power plant operation and documented in annual reports. In comparative reports, the results of the individual reports are summarized and trends are statistically evaluated to determine changes between years.
